Back pain quietly takes over everything — the commute, tying your shoes, sleep. If you’re considering physiotherapy but don’t know what actually happens, here’s the no-surprises version.
Does it work? For most mechanical back pain (muscle strain, poor posture, disc issues), yes. Unlike medication, physio addresses the cause — weak muscles, poor movement patterns, restricted mobility — not just the symptom.
Your first visit: A 30–45 minute assessment. Your physiotherapist asks about your pain, watches how you move, tests strength and range of motion, and explains what’s likely driving it — most back pain doesn’t need imaging to treat. You’ll leave with a plan.
Common treatments: Manual therapy, targeted exercise, postural retraining, heat/ice or TENS, and sometimes dry needling — tailored to your diagnosis.
How many sessions? Acute pain: 4–6 sessions over 2–4 weeks. Chronic pain: 8–12+ sessions plus home exercises. Most people feel some improvement within 2–3 visits.
See someone sooner if: pain radiates down a leg, follows a fall, causes numbness, or disrupts sleep nightly.
Between sessions: Do your home exercises consistently, stay moderately active, and watch your lifting technique — recovery happens between visits too.
Most extended health plans cover physiotherapy, and no referral is usually needed. Book your assessment in Brampton and get a plan built around your actual pain.
